HCP provides trench heating and fresh air plenum boxes for new Monsoon HQ in London

HCP, a division of SAS International, has supplied over 650 metres of bespoke trench heating and over 200 metres of plenum boxes for the fashion group Monsoon’s new headquarters in London’s “Notting Dale”.

The recently completely 15,000 square metre building was designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and has played a vital part in regeneration of this section of the W11 post code of North West London.

M&E consultants Norman Disney & Young specified trench heating at the highly glazed perimeter of the seven floor building to combat cold down drafts. In addition to providing the trench heating, HCP also supplied air plenum boxes to this high profile project.

The plenum boxes are used to supply fresh air to the project and were installed between the trench heating units.  Both units were designed to use the same aluminium grille, which resulted in the perimeter of the building having an attractive and uniform appearance.

HCP manufactured a bespoke trench heating unit which maximised the length and output of the heating element within the casing by supporting it on the end-plates. They were delivered in parts and assembled on-site, however trench heating units normally arrive pre-assembled with the elements supported on a bracket ending approximately 50mm from each casing end plate.

In addition to supporting the heating elements, the trench heating end-plates feature floor tile supports located at the outside ends of each unit.  These were utilised to support the floor tiles located between the units, which covered the glazing cladding cleats.

To ensure a smooth and continuous look throughout the building, each trench heating unit and air plenum box sat on special ‘top hat’ brackets which allowed trench heating grilles to be adjusted to sit flush with the raised floor.

Because of their low water content, rapid warm up times and effective heat transfer, HCP trench heating is an energy efficient alternative to traditional heating methods. These improvements can help cut energy usage and meet the recent carbon emission cuts required by changes to the building regulations – Part L in England and Wales and Part J in Scotland.
